Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Wayne Allen Casperson was born on April 11, 1940, in Ferryville WI, to Thelma and Helmer Casperson. Wayne passed away on June 14, 2017, in Story City IA.

Wayne and Judy met in high school (Belvidere IL) and were married on September 2, 1960. Daughter Toni was born in 1962 and son Tim was born in 1964. Belvidere IL was home until 1972 when the family moved to Story City IA.

Wayne started working for Sundstrand in Rockford IL in 1963 until the Ames IA plant opened in 1972 and transferred. Wayne worked for Sundstrand (Sauer-Sundstrand) for 39 years at various locations (Ames, LaSalle, Lawrence) mainly as a Materials Manager/Mfg Team Leader until he retired. He was the ultimate problem solver and a human calculator.

He loved his family, and took many family vacations and trips, spent holidays and birthdays together. Our extended family enjoyed many trips to Leech Lake MN for fishing vacations, numerous road trips throughout the US, trips to Chicago for Cubs games, theater shows, and events. Many laughs, stories, and memories have been shared throughout the years.

Wayne was an avid reader on all kinds of subjects, but most notably early American and Native American history, crime and mobsters, biographies, anything about JFK, and baseball history. He was a life-long and diehard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan, and his kids grew up to be the same. He was a big fan for the Roland-Story Norsemen, Iowa State Cyclones, and the Iowa Cubs. He worked as an usher at Cyclone football games and Iowa Cubs games. He golfed, bowled, played pinnacle, bridge, and studied blackjack. He was an excellent cook and loved to try new recipes with the family on weekends.

He and Judy took up an interest in genealogy. After their family trees were researched, they both began tracing other family's genealogy by volunteering through Story County Extension. They presented a genealogy program at Bertha Bartlett Public Library. Judy and Wayne took a trip to Norway so that he could connect with some distant relatives of Wayne and see where his family began; he always treasured that.

Wayne was active at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, governing board of Good Neighbor Emergency Assistance Inc., helping with the last census and serving at the polls during elections.

He is survived by wife, Judy Casperson of Story City; daughter Toni Casperson (Curt Peck) of Story City; and Tim (Kathy) Casperson of Story City. When Tim married Kathy, he blessed our family with two wonderful granddaughters for Wayne and Judy -- Jennifer (Kent) Doolittle with children Erik and Nora; and Emily (Jeremy) Lee and their daughter Lydia. Wayne loved the great-grandkids and was so proud and impressed by them.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Thelma and Helmer Casperson.

Forever, for always, and no matter what
