From Fredergill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Delbert Reischauer, 83, of Zearing, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Zearing Health Care Center in Zearing, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral Home, 310 N. Center St., Zearing, Iowa. A memorial service will follow the visitation and begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Delbert was born on December 18, 1933 on a farm in Rural Story City, Iowa to Clarence and Mary (Barnard) Reischauer. At the age of 9 the family moved to Blue Earth, Minnesota and he grew up on a farm there. He graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1951. After school Delbert moved to Zearing, Iowa to help his grandparents farm. He was drafted by the Navy and served his country on the aircraft carrier USS ESSEX in the South Pacific Ocean. After Delbert was honorably discharged from the Navy he went to work for Northwest Airlines in Seattle, WA. He remained with them until he retired in 1993. Delbert moved back to Zearing in 2002 to be near his family.

Delbert enjoyed working, maintaining his house and cars, playing games such as croquet and carrom, and listening to many sporting events including the Seattle Seahawks and baseball games.

Those left to cherish his memories are his siblings Bennett (Judy) Reischauer of Muscatine, IA, Howard (Judy) Reischauer of Zearing, IA, and Kathryn Reischauer of Loveland, CO; sister-in-law Florence Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gordon Reischauer; sister Evelyn Abel; and sister-in-law Rosalie Fitzgerald Reischauer.
