OBITUARY
Mrs. John F. Barker
The Clinton Herald in the issue of June 26, 1906, in announcing the death on the previous day of Mrs. John F. Barker, who in her girlhood days was known in Nevada as Laura Jacobson, had to say:
"The news of the death of Mrs. Barker came as a shock to her friends, for although she had not been so well as usual, it was known that the family was planning to spend the summer, as was their custom, either in Colorado or California. Laura Batchellor was born in Lyons November 11, 1867, and January 3, 1889, was married to John F. Barker, who for many years was identified with the T. M. Gabble wholesale company. A beautiful home was built in Ringwood, and her two daughters were born, Irma and Maude. It was not long before Mrs. Barker began to show indications of failing health and her husband severed his business connections here, going to Arizona, locating and entering the business field at Tucson seven years ago. Mrs. Barker has made several visits home coming a short time in the summer months, but has not been in Clinton for five years past. Aside from her husband and daughters, there is left her sister, Mrs. H. C. Boardman of O'Keene, Okla., and brother, W. D. Jacobson, of Clinton. Mrs. Barker was a talented woman, bright and endearing herself to her closest friends because her sweet disposition and gentle ways. Uncomplainingly she had borne with the necessity of living far away from friends and relatives, her letters always bits of delightful reminiscences of travel in that far territory. She will be sincerely mourned by all who knew her."
