SLATER

DEATH OF SEVERT HELLAND

Severt Helland died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Berhow, north of Huxley, last Wednesday about noon after a lengthy illness. Mr. Helland reached an age of over eighty one years. He was one of the early pioneer settlers of these parts, arriving from Wisconsin in 1857 when he settled down on the farm in Polk county which remained his home till 1902 when they moved to Slater where they resided a few years. The last three they have resided with their children. Mrs. Helland died a little over two months ago. They leave five children. These are three sons, Mike, Nels and Martin and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Fatland and Mrs. Lewis Berhow. Funeral services were conducted at the Fieldberg church in Huxley Saturday afternoon and were largely attended. Rev. Guttebo conducted the services at the church and Rev. Smedal of Roland at Fieldberg cemetery where interment was made.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: I have seen the deceased and his children listed as both Helland and Helleland. His grave stone reads, "Helland."
