OBITUARY

DEATH OF E. W. APPLE

Elias W. Apple, one of he pioneers of Story county died at the home of his daughter Mr. A. B. Mills 24th street and Easton Bouldevard Des Moines on Wednesday Nov. 18th, 1908, aged 83 years, 2 months and 4 days.

"Grandfather" Apple was born in Hamilton county, Ohio, on the 14th day of September 1825, but at an ealy age he moved to Indiana where he grew up and was married to Hannah H. Dunning, March 5 1846. They came to Story county in 1856 and made their home on their farm near Johnson's Grove where they lived until 1883, when they moved to Des Moines, in which city they resided for the remainder of their lives. To Mr. and Mrs. Apple were born eight children, six of whom survive. These are Mrs. J. A. Smay of Ottawa, Kansas; Mrs. O. J. Smay of Egbert, Arkansas; Clark Apple of Nevada, Iowa; Mrs. A. H. Mills, Arthur H. and Leslie C. Apple of Des Moines.

Grandfather and grandmother Apple lived very happily together for more than sixty years and until her departure August 7, 1907. Since then he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. A. H. Mills. Father Apple was a grandson of a Revolutionary Soldier, his grand father being Captain of a magazine corps in the Revolutionary War. He joined the M. E. church when a young man, and at time of his death was a member of the Easton Place M. E. church where his funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. C. W. Brewer of Carlisle, Iowa.
