From Nevada Representative August 10, 1908

Mrs. Charles Schoonover of Boone died at her home there on Sunday after a brief illness. She and her husband were residents of Nevada in war-time and after; and they have had numerous old friends among the pioneer element of this county. They have lived in Boone, however, for something like thirty-five years, and it is only the older element that will remember them here. Mrs. Schoonover was about seventy years of age.

Funeral of Mrs. Chas. Schooover

The funeral of Mrs. Chas. Schoonover of Boone, whose death occurred at Boone on last Sunday, August 9, was held at Boone this morning and the interment was early this afternoon in the cemetery at Nevada. The services at Boone and at the grave were conducted by Rev. Jennie Bartholomew, pastor of the Universalist church at Boone; and among the mourners here were the husband, Mr. Schoonover, and a considerable company of the family and friends from Boone and elsewhere. Mrs. Schoonover's maiden name was Sarah T. Downing and she was born in Pickaway county, Ohio, March 28, 1839. She was married at Oskaloosa, Iowa, February 7, 1856; and Mr. Schoonover and his wife came to Nevada the same year. They continued to live at Nevada until 1867, when they removed to Boone, where the home has been ever since. She was a woman much loved and admired, and at her burial there were besides the friends from abroad many old-time friends from Nevada. The funeral party are entertained this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Anna Frazier; whose family and the Schoonover family have long been associated.

From Nevada Representative August 17, 1908

Mrs. George Brigham of Sioux City has been visiting the F. D. Thompsons and other old friends since the burial of her sister, Mrs. Schoonover, last Friday. Mrs. Brigham's maiden name was Martha Downing. Both the Downing and the Brigham families came to Nevada in the fifties; here Mrs. Brigham was married and here the senior Brighams are buried. It is recalled that the elder Mrs. Brigham was one of Nevada's first teachers--that she taught a select school in the new town before it had built a school house, or established a public school. The death of senior Brighams about thirty years ago within a day or two of each other in a dwelling which stood where Mrs. Handsaker's does now is mentioned by old-timers. Mrs. George Brigham's son, who was Nevada born, is reported prospering on a claim in South Dakota, and his mother will join him soon in the new home. She is greeting old settlers at the reunion in Maxwell today.
