OBITUARY
DEATH OF JENS PETERSEN
Jens Petersen, an aged and esteemed resident of Nevada, died Saturday morning at his home in this city. He had been tailing rapidly for a couple of weeks or more, and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Petersen was a native of Denmark, where he was born March 22, 1829, and he died at Nevada, Iowa October 8, 1910, aged 81 years, 6 months and 10 days. He grew up and married in Denmark; but in 1870 he migrated with his family to this country, coming directly to Nevada and arriving here in June of that year. For the more than forty years since that time he has been continuously a resident of this city. By trade he was cabinet-maker and for many years he had a shop on the rear of the lot where the Methodist church now stands. He was a good workman and worthy man, and he was well esteemed by the community. He was twice married, and his second wife died about ten years ago. In his later years his home has been with his son, Peter C. His other children are his daughter, Mrs. Hannah Carlson of New York City, who was also with him in his last weeks, and his adopted daughter, Anna, Mrs. John Mathison of this city. There were seven other children; but all of them died in youth or before being married. His funeral was conducted Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church by Rev. Isham of Fernald.
