OBITUARY

Death of Mrs. W. W. Nixon

Mrs. W. W. Nixon, nee Phoebe Goodin, an early residen tof Nevada, most highly esteemed by all who have known her, died Sunday morning, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Moore, 4011 Grand avenue, Des Moines, aged eighty-two years. Her burial takes place this afternoon at Boone, and her remains will rest beside those of her husband, who passed on from his home in Boone just seventeen years ago.

Captain and Mrs. Nixon with their brood of little ones came from Ohio to Nevada about forty five years ago. Capt. Nixon has closed a term of honorable service in the Union army. Central Iowa had, by reason of her opportunities for the settler developed attraction for the officer whose sword was hung up, and for his wife by reason of it having become the home of kindred. Her sister, Mrs. E. G. Day, was a resident of Nevada; and her cousins, Smith and Alfred Goodin, lived just outside of town and the Letsons were old friends and neighbors. The Nixons lived for two years on what is now the Atkinson corner, south of the Adventist church. When they came here Nevada was the end of the Northwestern, and business was located around the common which is now the City Park, and all of the old-timers of that period were their cordial neighbors.

When the railroad had pushed on to Boone the Nixons moved there, and there the family home remained till a few years ago when Mrs. Nixon removed to Des Mones to be with her younger daughters, Mrs. T. B. Moore, and Mrs. Anna Streit. Her son, Mrs. William Nixon, and her eldest daughter, Mrs. Fanny Barndollar, have for many years resided in the vicinity of Boston, Mrs. Nixon ever after removing to Boone was an occasional visitor in Nevada. Her daughters were here more frequently and for several years were accounted among out young people.

Her age has been serene and it was favored with health till a few weeks ago. Pneumonia was the conquering foe. Her son and her three daughters are together in the final rites.

Mrs. Nixon was a rare woman. Her sweet, kind spirit was balm to all within the circle of its influence. Blessed is the memory she leaves.
