OBITUARY

Death of D. E. Bates

Dewane E. Bates, son of Henry Bates of Nevada, died Saturday, March 19, at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was working a gew miles from Des Moines when about two weeks ago he was attacked with appendicitis and hurried by a physician to the hospital, where he was operated upon a few hours later. His father and brother Clarence visited him at the hospital and he did nicely till last Friday evening when a relapse set in. His father being summoned, went to him Saturday morning, and the son passed away Saturday evening, as stated. The remains were brought to the paternal home in Nevada Sunday evening, whence they were taken to the funeral Monday afternoon at the Summit church southeast of town, and the burial in the family lot at the Summit cemetery. Revs. R. E. Shaw assisted by Rev. Skogsburg conducted the service, and members of the order of Woodmen served as pall bearers.

Mr. Bates was born January 12 1882, on his father's farm east of Nevada, and has spent the twenty-eight years of his life in this vicinity. He leaves three small sons, besides his father, brother and many friends.
