Helen Colleen Rehor was born August 20, 1929 on a farm near Pisgah, Iowa. She was the daughter of Vernie and Lou Idell (Stolley) Pearey. She graduated from Pisgah High School in 1947. After graduation, Helen attended Simpson College. Following college, she pursued her life passion as an elementary school teacher. As educational requirements changed, she attained a degree from Drake University, while teaching and being a full-time mother.
On June 22, 1952, Helen and Rolland Rehor were married in Cambridge, Iowa. Together they raised three children, Bradford Lee, James Rolland, and Nancy Kay at their home in Nevada, Iowa.
Helen taught public elementary school, mostly in Nevada, Iowa, for over thirty-three years and impacted the lives of many of her students, which were a little over eight hundred in her estimation. Helen was a member of PEO, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Memorial Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and took pride in raising her children in the Lutheran Faith.
Helen and Rolland celebrated sixty years of marriage split between Iowa and Florida.
Her passions were spending time with her grandchildren, golfing, painting, playing the piano, researching genealogy, and dancing with her husband Beau.
She was preceded in death by her son Bradford Lee, husband Rolland L., her parents, and siblings Lona Mae, Elwin LaVerne, Josephine Lois, and Keith Gordon Pearey.
She is survived by siblings Geraldine Alice, Barbara Jane, and Bertha Eileen Pearey, sister-in-law Phyllis Murphy, her two children James Rolland (Melanie) and their two children Gabrielle and Danielle Rehor, Nancy Kay (Kurt) and their three children Paul (Kari), Blake, and Paige Rasmussen, along with daughter-in-law Denise Rehor and Bradford’s children Amanda, Jessica, and Katie Rehor, and four great grandchildren. She was an outstanding and valued member of the community, and she will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she impacted throughout her endeavors.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will be served immediately following the committal service at Nevada Municipal Cemetery in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Helen for Nevada Elementary Schools and Memorial Lutheran Church.
