OBITUARY

THOR ERICSON

Thor Ericson, one of the pioneers of Lafayette township and most respected citizen of that portion of the county, died at his home in Story City January 5, 1910 aged 77 years, 1 month and 13 days. The Story City Herald says of him:

"He had been almost helpless for a year past and the end was hastened by an attack of pneumonia a few days ago. Death to him was no enemy, coming over him like a slumber to a weary child. Gently the spirit took its flight to the better world for which it had been preparing for many years.

"Thor Ericson was born the parish of Skaanevik, Norway, November 22, 1832. He immigrated to America in 1854, settling first in Illinois, where he met the lady who was later to become his wife, they were married in 1859 and five years later moved to Iowa, where they settled on the farm south of Story City which was for so many years their home. Four children were born to them, three of whom are now living namely, E. L. Ericson, Mrs. S. S Weirson and Mrs. B. C Hanson.

"The deceased was a man of few words, upright and respected by all who knew him. His death marks the passing of another one of those sturdy pioneers who contributed so much to the upbuilding of this western country. He was successful in a material sense, as this world counts success. But, what is really more worthwhile, of him it can be said the he was successful in gaining and building true friendships which require character and stability.
