Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Lois Muriel Abrahamson was born June 11, 1922 to Henry and Mabel (Olson) Abrahamson on the family farm north of Dayton, Iowa. She attended elementary school in Dayton to the 7th grade. In 1934 at the age of 13, Lois and her family moved to Jewell where she was confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in 1937. Lois graduated from Jewell High School in 1940.
Lois met the love of her life, Orlyn Flygstad, after a class play in Randall. They were married February 4, 1945 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell and together raised three children, Marge, Deb and Steve, on a farm southwest of Ellsworth. Lois was active at Bethesda Lutheran Church and served as president of Ladies Aid. Lois donated her time as a 4-H leader and was a very accomplished seamstress, making both her daughter's wedding gowns. In 1987, Orlyn and Lois moved to Cherokee Village in Arkansas and lived there until 2006 when they moved back to Iowa to be closer to family. Lois and Orlyn celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 4, 2016. Orlyn passed away April 21, 2016.
Family meant everything to Lois. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Some of Lois' favorite moments could be found sitting at a sewing machine fashioning clothing or crafts for her family, creating quilts, at the stove cooking wonderful meals, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, playing cards or dominoes with family and friends, sitting around a campfire with family, tending to her flowers and garden, and sharing a cup of coffee at the kitchen table with family and friends.
Lois passed away from this life on November 15, 2016 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Webster City, Iowa at 94 years of age.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marge Ocker of Glenpool, Okla., and Deb (Bruce) Berggren of Stanhope; her son, Steve (Lavonne) Flygstad of Ellsworth; her grandchildren, Heather (Micah) Abel of Ames, Holly Young of St. Charles, Noelle Ocker of Collins, Rachel (Matt) Brantley of Sapulpa, Okla., Amy (Jay) Barquist of Jewell and Lisa Flygstad of Ellsworth; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Doris Harman of Iowa Falls; her sisters-in-law, Erma Flygstad of Jewell and Dorothy Flygstad of Ellsworth; her brother-in-law, Wayne (Joy) Flygstad of Cheyenne, Wyo.; her friend, Lesa (Young) Howard of St. Charles; as well as other relatives and many friends.
