OBITUARY

DEATH OF P. C. HANSON

P. C. Hanson, a pioneer resident of this place and vicinity, while assisting in tearing down the old grain annex to the J. P. Hessen elevator, which Mr. Hanson purchased last winter and moved to his farm east of town, was struck and fatally hurt by a 2x10 twenty-eight foot timber, which fell, together with other lumber which had been partly loosened from the building an which Mr. Hanson was trying to brace up at the time of the accident. The accident happened about ten o'clock June 30 and physicians were summoned immediately, but the injuries were fatal nothing could be done to save his life, death coming about four o'clock a. m. July 3.

Mr. Hanson was born in Skudenes, Norway, Sept. 9, 1844 and came to America in 1861, making his home at Chicago at that time. He was married to Miss Martha Anderson of Marseilles, Ill. on Dec. 19, 1869, to which union nine children were born. The wife and two daughter, Miss Minnie and Mrs. H. O. Bilings and five sons, A. C., M. C., George, David and Frans Hanson, still survive him, two daughters having gone before.

The deceased and family came to Story county in Sept. 1877 and settled on a farm southwest of McCallsburg, living in this vicinity until 1886 when he and family moved to Washington, coming back in about a year. After their return he engaged in farming and grain buying at this place. He came to America with comparatively nothing and leaves the fine farms in his neighborhood and several residences and business buildings in this place to testify to his thrift and industry.

The funeral was conducted and at 1:30 o'clock p. m. July 8, from the residence by the Pacific Lodge No. 469 A. F. & A. M. Uniform rank, of which Mr. Hanson had been a member since 1889. Interment took place at the McCallsburg cemetery. All the family were present except the son Frank who is in Montana, and could not be reached by telegraph, telephone or mail. Friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family in their time of loss.
