Death of Mrs. D. J. Whitaker

Mrs. D. J. Whitaker, formerly a well known resident of Nevada township, died Friday at her home near Bondurant, aged nearly 74 years. Her maiden name was Amelia C. Pring and she was born in Van Wert county, Ohio, March 9, 1837. She was a daughter of Richard and Mary Pring, and she lived the Ohio home until the removal of her family to Polk county, Iowa in 1857. She was there married to Joshua E. Evans and after his death she was again married to D. J. Whitaker, July 4, 1865. They removed in 1870 to Nevada township in Story county and lived there for eighteen years. In 1888 they removed to Kansas but four years later returned to Iowa and have since lived in Polk county and for many years on her parental farm near Bondurant. he is survived by her husband, one daughter of her first marriage, Mrs. John McConnell of Nevada and two sons of her second marriage, John W. Whitaker of Mitchellville and Perry Whitaker of Maynard, Minnesota. A daughter Nettie, Mrs. Barr grew to womanhood but died in Oklahoma in 1894. Two other daughter, one of each marriage, died young. Her husband and surviving children were with her at the last excepting Perry, who arrived for the funeral, which was held at Bondurant Monday afternoon, and the interment was in the Santiago cemetery. Mrs. Whitaker joined the Evangelical church in 1871 and later transferred her church membership to the Methodist organization. She was also a member of the W. R. C. The news of her death will be received with much regret by many old friends in this vicinity.
