From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

"Some glad morning when this life is o're, I'll fly away". That became Donald J Petersen's song for his home going, October 21, 2016. Don was born October 2, 1921 and was adopted as a baby by Fred and Florence (Grandy) Petersen from Waterloo, Iowa. After high school graduation, Don enlisted in the Navy and served as a radio technician on the ships, USS Dahlgren DD187 and USS Roper during WWII. He was discharged from the Navy in 1945 and attended ISU where he received his architectural engineer degree. He worked at the DOT until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Pauline Ziegler and her twin sister, Arline. He loved and served the Lord his whole life. The Petersen house was always open to anyone that needed a place to heal their lives and their hearts. Don was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Gideon International and Campus Baptist Church.

Visitation will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday October 25, 2016 at Stevens Memorial Chapel with the burial to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Gideon International in Don's name.
