Mary L. Phares
Mary L. Phares, 89, died Monday, Dec. 15, at Story County Hospital, Nevada. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, from Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada, with Dr. William Bass of the First Christian Church, Nevada officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Collins.
Mary L. Phares was born July 7, 1892, of the family farm south of Colo, to John W. and Didama (Dickinson) Phares. She attended Colo schools and graduated from Nevada High School. She received a B.S. degree from University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, and a Ph.D. from University of Iowa, Iowa City.
She taught at several universities in California, Texas and North Carolina and lectured in Switzerland and England to the International Congress of Psychologists. In 1949 she returned to the family farm south of Colo where she lived until two years ago when she became a resident of the long-term care unit at Story County Hospital. She was a member of Collins Rebecca Lodge and Dalton Aid community group.
She is survived by 13 nieces and nephews including Irving Phares, Collins, Harry Phares, Colo, and Dorothy Christian, Roland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada.
