Floyd W. Phares
Feb. 7, 1919, to April 21, 2002Floyd W. Phares, 83, of Marshalltown and formerly of Ames, died Sunday, April 21, at the Madrid Home in Madrid from a heart ailment.
He was born Feb. 7, 1919, near Collins to Benjamin and Iva (Brown) Phares. He graduated from Newton High School in 1939 and then attended Barber College. He entered the US Army and served the South Pacific Theater during World War II. He was injured at Okinawa on July 1, 1944, and received a Purple Heart and other Service Medals. He had a barber shop in Ames for several years. He married Mable Dimple Byers DeHoet on Feb. 7, 1947. They lived in Marshalltown for many years. He was lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America.
Survivors include two sons, Dan Phares of Seattle Wash., and Mike Phares of Utah; a step-daughter, Patricia Edwards of Gladbrook; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mabel, on June 19, 1998; a stepson, Virgil DeHoet; and a grandson, Christopher Warren DeHoet.
Funeral services were held today, Thursday, April 25, at 1 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Burial of the cremains was in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors.
