Connor was born in Des Moines on September 9th, 1994 to Angela Lynn Cope. He spent three years of his early life in Chicago. He grew up in Marshalltown, where he graduated from MHS in 2013. He was a drummer in the MHS Marching Band, a four year tennis player for MHS and swam for the Blue Waves and the Bobcats swim team.

Connor was known for his infectious smile and his very kind quiet demeanor. He possessed a love for sports, both as an athlete and as a knowledgeable spectator. Ever the Cyclone fan, Connor regularly attended Iowa State games with his family and friends. Many dear memories were formed between Connor and his grandpa while they cheered for the Cyclones. Connor excelled at swimming from an early age. His dedication to the sport resulted in numerous accolades, though he always remained very humble regarding his success. His mom was his biggest fan.

Growing up, Connor and his mother were close and spent lots of time doing activities that Connor enjoyed.

Connor will be remembered for many positive attributes. There was never any doubt in regards to how much he loved his family; and, much like his grandma, Connor also had a soft spot for animals. He enjoyed fishing, Frisbee golf, hanging out with friends and loved to drive his beloved bright blue Mustang.

Connor attended Iowa State University for three semesters and worked for Perfect Games at the time of his death. His plan was to return to ISU and finish his degree. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown.

Survivors include Connor’s mother, Angela Cope, his grandparents, Richard and Susan Cope, his uncle, Jason (Deb) Cope, his cousin Gavin Cope, great-uncle Neal (Dianne) Rinehart, great-aunts- Pam (Ron) Bane and Carol (Dave) Fox and all of their families. He is also survived by his faithful companions- his cat Felix and Mushu the bearded dragon.

Connor was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Walter and Bertha Cope and William and Betty Rinehart.

A Memorial Fund is being established in Connor’s name.
