Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Nana M. DeYoung, 96, of Ames, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa, with her loving family by her bedside.

Nana was born August 15, 1920 in Kenosha, Wisc. to the late George and Nellie Houmann. She has been an area resident since 1955. On July 13, 1943 in San Diego, Calif., as the former Nana M. Houmann, she married Clarence E. DeYoung who preceded her in death in 1993.

She is survived by one son, Jan A. (Laura) DeYoung of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Jean M. (Bruce) Boaz of Mooresville, Ind. and Julie A. Fitzgerald of Ames; six grandchildren, Marie D. (Jeffrey) Stinson, Laura Beth (Jason) DePasquale, Megan W. (Jarod) Bark, Lynsey M. (Andrew) Moriarty, James E. (Ashley) Fitzgerald and Daniel J. Fitzgerald; and six great-grandchildren, Nichole J. Stinson, Olivia C. DePasquale, Sophia R. DePasquale, Mikayla J. Bark, Carina K. Bark and Ryan G. Moriarty.

Nana was preceded in death by her loving husband and one sister, Mabel Wallace.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ames. Nana enjoyed many happy years with dear friends serving the community through her memberships in the Order of the Eastern Star, Tri T, Sans Souci, and the Ames Women’s Club. She enjoyed cooking, reading, playing bridge, in her later years watching sports, and spending time with her family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her loving family and those who knew her during her life’s journey.

Memorial services for Nana will be Friday, September 23 at Adams Funeral Home, located at 502 Douglas Avenue in Ames. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fred Lewis of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Eastern Star Masonic Home, 715 W. 3rd St., Boone, IA 50036, First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave., Ames, IA 50010, The Emergency Residence Project, 225 S. Kellogg Ave., Ames, IA 50010, or a charity of your choice.
