Howard John Mark Peterson was born August 17, 1927, the son of Hans Frederick and Edith (Wiley) Peterson, in Story County, Iowa. Howard enrolled in Ag Business courses at Iowa State College and then served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949. On November 11, 1949, he married Marian Graham in Ames. Howard worked as a herdsman for the Dairy Herds Association in Nevada, as a health aid for Homeward Hospice for 20 years, and as a security guard for ISU, retiring in 1992. Howard was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church in Boone and the American Legion Post #56 in Boone. He enjoyed socializing and spending time with his family.

Howard passed away at 89 years of age on September 2, 2016 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Howard is survived by three sons, Darrell (Marie) Peterson of Boone, David (Cindi) Peterson, of Boone and Tim Peterson of Jewell; one daughter, Jenny Huntrods of Huxley; four grandchildren, Nathan (Abby) Huntrods, Megan (Tanner) Cheeseman, Travis Peterson and Ashley (Justin) Stoner; and five great-grandchildren, Scott Peterson, Molly Cheeseman, Logan Huntrods, Lillian Huntrods and Emerson Cheeseman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; four sisters; and two brothers.
