Sudden Death of Ralph E. McKim, Native of Nevada

Ralph E. McKim, 56, lifelong resident of Nevada and for a number of years engaged in the retail drug business here, passed away at 5:30 a.m. today, from a heart attack, after a year's invalidism.

While his condition appeared to be improved during the past few months, he suffered a serious attack during the night and death claimed him shortly afterwards.

Ralph E. or "Dutch" McKim as he was familiarly known, was born in Nevada, a son of Daniel McKim and Alice Dougherty-Goldsberry-McKim.

He attended the Nevada schools and was united in marriage to Miss Ella Smith, August 7, 1912. Immediately following his marriage he attended a college of pharmacy in Des Moines, after which he was employed for a brief time in a store at Montour. Returning to Nevada he shortly afterwards purchased the City Drug store which he operated for several years selling a half interest in the business to C. B. Ebert. Later he disposed of his further interests in the business to Mr. Ebert. After a brief rest period he resumed active business life being for a time in charge of a store at Colo after which he went to Chicago, where he was employed for year or so.

Three daughters were born as a result of the marriage of Mr. McKim and Ella Smith. The daughters are Frances, now Mrs. Howard Safly of near Ames, Sidney, now Mrs. Merlyn Smalldridge of Ames and Serat Ella McKim, now in the United States army and stationed at Fort Ogelthorpe, Georgia.

Besides the daughters he is survived by the grandchildren. They are James Howard, Stephen Keys and Jack Safly, and Ronald, Patricia Ann and Mary Sheila Smalldridge.

In addition to these member of his immediate family, he leaves two half brothers, I. M. McKim of near Nevada and Dr. Clyde O. Goldsberry, of Medford, Oregon, and an aunt Miss Anna Dougherty of Des Moines.

Funeral rites for Mr. McKim will be held Monday afternoon at the Morfoot funeral home, the hour being dependent upon the arrival of relatives expected from a distance. Other details of the funeral and interment are as yet undetermined.
