THOMAS M. STEPHENS [sic]
The death of Thomas H. Stephens occurred Thursday morning, May 13, 1920, at his home on Vine street. The illness which resulted in his demise began two months ago with a paralytic stroke, from which he rallied and was able to be about town and to meet people about as usual. But several weeks later he suffered a second and more severe stroke which terminated fatally as stated.
Mr. Stephens was born in Ohio, August 30, 1848, and lived to nearly seventy-two years of age. He came with his parental family to Nevada as a seven to eight years old lad and here resided as a youth and man for some fourteen years more than half a century. As a citizen he had left a good record. During these many years he was an industrious and exemplary resident. He took commendable interest in the public affairs of the city and for fifteen to twenty years held the important position of assessor.
Mr. Stephens is survived by two daughters, Jessie and Marjorie, two brothers, George and John, the former of Denison and the latter of Delaware, Okla., and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Babbit of Denver, and Miss Alice Stephens of Chicago. An only son, Clare, was killed in France during the late world war, and won marked recognition from the government for special acts of bravery on the field of battle.
The funeral services of Mr. Stephens were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30, and were conducted by Rev. Mr. Walz of the Central Presbyterian church. The burial will be in the city cemetery by the grave of Mrs. Stephens, who died a few years ago.
