LaNair “Nib” Niblock, age 94, of Nevada, died Friday, September 2, 2016, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with military honors conducted by William F. Ball Post No. 48 of the American Legion. Pastor David R. Burling will officiate. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada. Private family burial will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Born October 8, 1921, in Andrew, Iowa, LaNair Charles Niblock was the son of Charles and Mary Niblock. He attended Andrew Community School, graduating in 1940. In 1942, he was drafted into the United States Army with the 314th Combat Engineers and served in the European Theatre in France and Germany. After being honorably discharged in 1945, Nib worked 12 years as a surveyor for the DOT and doing photogrammetry in the Ames office for 23 years, retiring in 1984.

Nib was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada Lions Club, and the American Legion. In 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Miller of Indianola, a kindergarten teacher at Nevada Elementary School. They welcomed a son, James, in 1959. Marilyn died in 1966. On August 16, 1969, he married Dorothy (Thoreson) Nelson.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Norman) Corbin of Orlando, FL; three sons, Fred (Janet) Nelson of Glen Ellyn, IL, Paul Nelson of Wilmington, NC, and James (Mavis) Niblock of Largo, FL; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marilyn in 1966; his second wife, Dorothy in 2011; a daughter, Kathie in 2000; six sisters; one brother; one half-sister; and one half-brother.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of LaNair and his family.
