Gail (Hill) Fawkes was born November 28, 1926 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian Hill. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1943. After high school, Gail was employed by J.C. Penney Company in Fort Dodge. She married Marion Fawkes on June 14, 1947 in Fort Dodge. Gail and Marion were proprietors of the Maid Rite Restaurant in Ames and subsequently owned and operated Marion's Sandwich Shop in Ames. Gail worked as a checker at the Fareway grocery store in Ames for 10 years prior to her retirement.

Gail died at 89 years of age on August 22, 2016 at Riverside Manor in Ames.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandi (Bryan) Charter; her son, Jeff (Beth) Fawkes; four grandsons, Austin (Lindsay) Fawkes, Christopher Fawkes, Taylor Charter and Kyle Charter; her great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Braylee; her daughter-in-law, Mary Fawkes, all of Ames; and her sister, Rita (Chester) Willhoite of Lehigh, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion Fawkes in 2002; her son, Ed Fawkes in 2014; and her siblings, Raymond, Russell, Allison, Harold, Leonard, Vivian Proctor, Teresa Schoen and Opal Stanberg.
