Obituary of John C. Rygh
Again the community is called upon to mourn the passing of another of its pioneers, in the highly respected person of John C. Rygh who passed into the Great Beyond Feb. 26,1919, having attained the advanced age of 77 years, 7 months and 20 days.
He was born July 6, 1841, and grew to manhood's estate in the land of his birth, but being endowed with the spirit of adventure, Mr. Rygh came to the U. S. in 1870 to seek a new home and his fortune in the land of opportunity, first locating in Kendall, Il., where he lived three years. It was while living there that he heard of the virgin and fertile prairies of Story county, so in 1878 he came here and bought the farm located 1 mile east and 3 miles south of Roland, which he still owned at the time of his death.
Mr. Rygh was married Feb. 14, 1879, to Engeborg Osmundson Stole, and to this unipn were born four children, three of whom with their mother survive to mourn the loss of a kind father and loving husband. The three sons are C. J. Rygh, of Miles City, Mont.; O. J. Rygh living on the old homestead, and W. M. Rygh of Denver, Colo.
In the year 1900 Mr. and Mrs Rygh decided to lay aside the burdens of farm life and enjoy the fruits, of their labors, so they moved to Roland where they have lived until Mr. Rygli's death.
Thus ends the mortal career of John Rygh, a man who was a true Christian, a good neighbor, and a splendid citizen. He was a man who not only believed in the principals of righteousness but did his best to live up to them. He was one of the most up-to-date and progressive farmers of his time. His farm was a model of good husbandry in every respect. He was methodical, with a place for everything and everything in its place. He was a believer in the better things of life, giving each one of his three sons a good education. His Christian'and upright life is a priceless heritage to his loved ones. The funeral was held from the home, Rev. Sandven, his pastor, conducting the services.
