Shirley M. Brubaker, 86, of West Union, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, Iowa. She was born on February 28, 1930, in Story City, Iowa, to Clarence and Mary (Maroney) Doolittle. Shirley received her education at country school in Story County and graduated from Gilbert High School. She was married to Joe Brubaker on November 10, 1950, in Story City. Shirley worked for the State of Iowa. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in West Union, where she was involved in many committees and other activities. She enjoyed going to her children's activities, spending time with her grandchildren and was recently a very proud great-grandmother. Shirley was very giving of her time and spirit to everyone. She is survived by her daughter Barb (Mike) Furman of Hampton, son John Brubaker of Hampton, grandchildren Megan (Jesse) Mollenbeck of Hampton, Erin (Anthony Hibbing) Brubaker of Lincoln, Nebraska, Matthew (Anna) Brubaker of Elgin, and Jarrett Brubaker of Houston, Texas, great-granddaughter Taya Grace Brubaker of Elgin, brother Delano Doolittle of Gilbert, daughter-in-law Kathy Brubaker of West Union, daughter-in-law Kimberli Philbirck of Houston, Texas, along with several nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mary, brother Dennis and son Jeffrey.
