RHINER HONDERD

Funeral services for Rhiner Honderd were held Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. from Grace United Methodist Church, Story City with the Rev. Pernie Pederson and the Rev. Paul H. Beckman officiating. Burial was in the Sheffield Cemetery, south of Story City. Pallbearers were John Honderd, H. J. Nibe, Frank Jacobs, Howard Johnson, Dorrell Doolittle and Russell Keltner.

Rhiner Honderd, son of Ralph and Anna Honderd, was born in Bedlum, Netherlands on Feb. 28, 1893. He came with his family to the United States and settled in Grandville, Mich. He was a member of the Christian Reform Church and served in the U.S. Army during World War I. On Jan. 5, 1927 he and Ida Jacobs, Story City were married. They lived in Flint, Mich, where he was employed by General Motors, and later moved to a farm south of Story City, until the time of Mr. Honderd's death. He farmed and operated a saw mill for many years. He had been in failing health for the past three years, and entered the Story City Hospital where he died Aug. 23.

Survivors include his wife, Ida; a daughter, Mrs. Rhoda Nerem, Jr., Roland; a son, Norman, Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, Ron, Ranae, Ralph and Rebecca Nerem, Dawny Diane and Bradley Honderd; six brothers, Peter, Zeeland, John of Granville, Mich.; Joe of Pella, Si, Beverly; Jake of Muskegon, Mich, and Bill of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Mewsen, Zeeland; Mrs. Hattie Sinke and Mrs. Elsa Marten both of Sparta.
