Deaths
Ida HondredIda P. Hondred, 98, of Roland died of congestive heart failure Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian McNamara officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery, rural Story City. Visitation will be Wednesday, prior to the service at Grace United Methodist Church.
Ida Hondred was born April 24, 1902 in Milford Township, Story County, to Henry and Carrie (Nelson) Jacobs. She married Rhiner Hondred on Jan. 5, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a retired employee of Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City, and lived south of Story City until moving to Roland in 1994. She had been active with the Sheffield Cemetery Society, Story County 4-H, and Milford School PTA, and loved sports.
Survivors include one daughter, Rhoda Nerem of Roland, one son, Norman Hondred of Ankeny, six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Aug. 8, 1971; on son, Donnie Hondred, one grandson, Ron Nerem; four sisters; one brother; and two half brothers.
Memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church or Homeward Hospice.
