OBITUARY

JOHN SAURS

John Saurs, an old-time resident of Richland township in Story county, but in recent years making his home with a daughter at Princeton, Kansas died on Friday last at a hospital in Topeka and he was buried in the cemetery at Nevada Monday afternoon, services at the grave being conducted by Rev. Rupper of the Church of Christ. Mr. Saurs was born in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, January 1, 1828, and died as stated at Topeka, Kansas, February 6, 1914, aged 86 years, 1 month and 5 days. He moved in 1860 to Iowa, settling first in Bremer county, and was married in that same year to Margaret Kern. He served three years in the civil war and after the war removed to Story county, locating north of Nevada, where he resided for thirty six years. Through this period he was one of the prominent farmers of this portion of the county. Mrs. Saurs died in 1880, and in 1901 he removed to Kansas. He laves four surviving children, Mrs. W. E. Lester of S----, Colorado; Mrs. W. L. Babcock of Princeton, and David and James Sowers of Nevada. There are also three grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Babcock accompanied the body here from Kansas and were met here by the sons.
