From Cambridge Leader, February 6, 1931

Benjamin F. Elliott was born February 3, 1842 in the state of Indiana and died in his home here February 18, 1931 at the age of 89 years and 15 days. He lived in Indiana until he was 12 years of age after which he came west with his parents to Iowa where he grew to manhood.He was a soldier during the Civil War and served his country faithfully for 2 years and 8 months. He was united in marriage to Colista Burns in the year 1866 and to this union 13 children were born 5 girls and 8 boys. He also leaves 40 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. His wife died 35 years ago.The surviving children are: Ed, Lew and Ivan Elliott, Mrs. George Zook, Mrs. Grace Sorenson and Mrs. Vina Scott. There are three surviving Civil War veterans, Andrew Nelson, W.A. Thompson and J.C. Jennings, the latter was in attendance at the funeral. The funeral was held from the White Oak church Friday afternoon at 2;30 with Rev. C.E. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge. The local American Legion Post conducted a short service at the grave. Internment in the White Oak cemetery. The pallbearers were six of his grandsons, Bob Zook, Ole, Donald, Ivin Jr., Frank and Jimmie Elliott.
