Wesley William Longnecker passed away peacefully on May 4, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Wes was born to George Ora Longnecker Sr. and Ida Blanche (Ault) Longnecker on their farm near Elkhart on November 21st, 1924, as 1 of 14 children. He attended White Oak School. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Pearson from Maxwell, in 1947. Wes was born with a love for the soil. Wes and Dorothy farmed, along with their sons, on the same family farm where he was born for 68 years. He also built many homes in the White Oak and Cambridge area. Wes was a member of the Christian Farmers Fellowship, served on the North Polk School Board and was a 4-H leader. He was a soft spoken generous man, always willing to help anyone with a need. Wes had a strong faith in the Lord and was always eager to share it with others. Wes and Dorothy currently attend Grace Evangelical Free Church in Huxley.

Wes is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy; his five children: Barbara (Terry) Welch, Wayne (Pat) Longnecker, Mark (Starla) Longnecker, Kristi (Owen) Steil and Amy (Bill) Boggs; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: George Jr. and Jerry Longnecker; 1 sister Ruth Scharnweber; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 3 sisters and 2 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday May 9th 5-8pm and funeral services will be Tuesday May 10th at 1 pm, both held at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 905 N. 5th Avenue, Huxley.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be designated to Grace Evangelical Free Church of Huxley or Mercy Hospice of Johnston.
