Paul Douglas Toot, 57, of Nevada, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada.
Paul was born January 30, 1959, in Nevada, the son of Delmar and Isabel (MacDonnell) Toot. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1977 and received an associate’s degree in criminal justice from DMACC. On June 26, 1993, Paul was united in marriage to Molly Putzier in Ames.
Paul served 30 years as a Story County Deputy, retiring in 2009. He was elected to the Story County Board of Supervisors in 2010 and 2014 and was active with several boards including: Chair, Board of Health, Chair, Prairie Rivers and Board Member: Central Iowa Juvenile Justice. Story County was a better place thanks to Paul.
He was an avid Cyclone fan, enjoyed old John Deere tractors and mowing the yard. Paul loved spending time with his family; he always put them first. He was a very proud husband and dad.
Paul is survived by his wife, Molly of Nevada; his daughters: Sarah and Margaret Toot both of Ames; his son, Benjamin Toot of Nevada; his mother, Isabel Toot of Nevada; his brothers: Joe Toot of Nevada, Greg (Betty) Toot of Nevada, Mark Toot (Yvonne Schmidt) of Britt, MN and David (Karen) Toot of Nevada; his brother-in-law, William Croteau of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his father, Delmar; his sister, Mary Toot-Croteau; and a sister-in-law, Barb Toot.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Murphy Cemetery near Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in memory of Paul.
