From Nevada Representative September 8, 1897
Mrs. Josephine Ricker, of St. Joseph, Mo., who has been visiting the past two weeks at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Storm, was nearly crazed Saturday by the receipt Saturday morning of a letter of condolence couched in the strongest terms from a St. Joe friend who failed to indicate upon what disaster she was condoling. Whether the message related to her husband in Mexico or her son in Kansas, Mrs. Ricker had no means of guessing; but late Saturday evening word was finally received of the death of her husband, C. B. Ricker, of malarial fever September 1st, in Mexico, where he had recently gone to take a position as locomotive engineer. The son, C. B. Ricker, who is an express messenger on the Missouri Pacific, arrived last evening and will be with his mother and grand parents for a few days.
