M. P. WARRICK DEAD.

Matthew Patton Warrick died Sunday morning November 6, 1904, at his home three miles west of town after a severe illness of several months. Mr. Warrick was born in Pocahontas, Virginia, now West Virginia, Mar. 29, 1828. He came of an intelligent, thoughtful, landlording, virile ancestry with a clear descent from the English Warwicks. he came with his parents to Chicago in 1844, and after a brief stay in that embryo city, removed with the family to northern Indiana, and there was married in 1859 to Mary Jane Baldwin of Edwardsburg, a neighboring town in Michigan. In 1862 he came with wife and young children to Iowa, locating first at Marshalltown and the following year at Boonesboro. In 1871 he came to Nevada where and in the immediate vicinity he made his permanent residence. he was one of the pioneers of this part of Iowa, and during his more than forty years residence here has witnessed and acted no mean part in its rapid and worthy development. As carpenter he helped build the first house in the present thriving city of Boone. And as a house mover of marked skill and judgment he has done much in the relocation of buildings in Nevada and other leading towns in Central Iowa. He had the instincts of an engineer and all work entrusted to him was well done. As a man Mr. Warrick was industrious, of kindly disposition, generous to a fault, beloved by his family, esteemed as a neighbor and respected as a citizen. He was always interest in the boys and girls of his acquaintance and by his kindly words and helpful acts did much to encourage such to worthy manhood and womanhood. He was not accounted a church going man but was believer in practical religion and his daily life strove to illustrate its spirit. he was in sympathy with nature and entertained broad and generous views of God and man. The funeral services of this pioneer citizen were held at his late home at 2 p. m. Tuesday afternoon, November 8th, and were attended by many old friends and neighbors. His companion of 45 years with their four children, were permitted to be present, with other relatives, in silence and tears to testify their love for the husband and father gone before. The burial took place in the Nevada cemetery.
