Former Resident of Howard Passes.

Mrs. Sjur Duea, one of the early settlers of Howard, closed her life recently at the home of her son Wier C. Duea in Ihlen, Min., aged nearly 75 years. The first eighteen years of her life were spent at Bergen, Norway coming to Lisbon, Illinois, she was there married in 1861 to Mr. Duea, and the young couple soon migrated with the colony that settled in Howard township, Story county, Iowa and founded Roland. She was a sister of Ole Wierson and her husband a brother of Jonas Duea, both pioneers who have passed on. The Sjur Duea home was on the farm one mile west of Roland shich is now owned by John Evenson. In 1887 the family moved to Pipestone, Min., and there Mr. Duea died in 1903. Thereafter, Mrs. Duea resided with the son Wier C. at Ihlen. Henry C. Duea who served two terms as Story county recorder and died six years ago was one of her sons. Sons and daughters who survive are Wier C. and Mrs. Carrie Sable of Ihlen, Minn.; Joseph C. of Sherman, S. D.; Martin C. and Randolph C. of Sharon, N. D.; Severt B. of Ruthton, Minn.; and Mrs. Julia Anderson of Sharon, N. D. They all gathered at her obsequies, Severt B. coming from the legislature and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Henry C. Duea of Roland joining them.
