Killed by a Snow-Slide in the Sierras

An unknown correspondent sends us from Oakland, California a clipping and brief explanation of an accident such as we understand not to be so very infrequent in the Sierras Nevada. The clipping is a dispatch from Reno, Nevada under date of March 11, and it says:

"Two men were killed in a snow slide at Sierra City Thursday night, according to advices reaching Reno this morning, nd their bodies have not yet been recovered.

"The slide occurred at what is known as the Bee ranch. John Turney, an aged resident of Sierra City, was one of the victims. The name of the other victim is not known. He was a watchman at the Gold Point mine. The slide swept the cabin in which the men lived into the river. Efforts to find the bodies have been unsuccessful.

"Another slide at the Phoenix Thursday night destroyed some buildings but there were no fatalities."

The explanation says: "Please accept this from an old Nevada resident" and states as in Iowa:

"Ben A. Hagen, son-in-law of Roy Child and husband of Mrs. Fred Child Hagen, was killed by a snow slide at Gold Point, California. Body has not been recovered as it was 200 feet deep. Mr. Hagen was left in charge by W. T. Arbunkle while he made a trip to Oakland on business. Mr. Arbunkle leaves at once to try and recover body. This place is 56 miles from railroad and where snow is 30 feet deep. March 8th, 1911."
