Michael James Flynn, 77, died March 19, 2016 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, April 1st at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2nd at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2210 Lincoln Way in Ames with a luncheon to follow.

Michael Flynn was born March 2, 1939 at home in Monona County, Iowa delivered by a nurse midwife. He was the son of Paul Michael and Evelyn Vivian Flynn. He graduated from Ute High School on May 1957 and then attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He married Teresa Ann Adams on November 1960 and was drafted into the U.S. Army shortly after. He served at Ft. Carson, CO and Ft. Gordon, GA until December 1963 as an instructor in Radio Teletype School. He received an honorable discharge as an E5 in December of 1963. Mike went back to school and graduated from University of Nebraska, Omaha in May of 1967, while working full time as a night supervisor at the U.S. National Bank of Omaha Data Processing Center. Upon graduation, he was hired as an Officer Trainee at the First National Bank of Ames where he was employed for 37 years. He completed the Masters School of Banking in Madison, WI. He retired as Vice President in the loan department in June of 2003. Mike was a member of numerous organizations including; Ames Rotary, ISU Cyclone Club, United Way Board, Mary Greeley Medical Center Board, Story County Chapter of American Red Cross, YSS Foundation, Jaycees, and Ames Chamber of Commerce just to name a few. He has been a member of St. Thomas since June of 1967 and served on the Parish Council.

Mike was an avid "old car guy." He enjoyed the restoration and all else that goes with loving antique cars. He and Teresa enjoyed traveling and wintering in Longboat Key, FL for many years. He loved his family and grandchildren, spending as much time as possible with them.

Michael is survived by his wife, Teresa, two sons, Dr. Christopher (Anne) Flynn of Battle Creek, MI and Andrew Flynn of Sioux Falls, SD, two grandchildren, Hannah and Evan, siblings; V. Patricia (Frederick) Moeller of Beaumont, CA, Barbara Ann (Robert) Caldwell if California City, CA, Richard Allen (Deanna) Flynn of Omaha, NE, Paulette Marie (Joseph) Lombardo of Tucson, AZ and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Flynn of Norfolk, NE and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Clifford Flynn.

Memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House, Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation, or St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
