Kenneth “KD” DeWayne Hohenberger, 88, of Nevada passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Kenneth was born April 11, 1927, in Grundy County, Iowa to Samuel and Iona (Meyers) Hohenberger. He graduated from Grundy Center High School and was united in marriage to Leona Meyer on June 20, 1950, in Grundy Center. Kenneth earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State and was working on earning his Master’s degree when his father’s health began to fail. In 1954 he returned to help on the family farm in Grundy County and continued to farm until his retirement in 1998. In 2001 he and his wife moved to Windsor Oaks in Ames. Kenneth attended the Nevada Baptist Church and enjoyed playing pool, bridge and putting together puzzles. He loved to tinker and always had to have something to work on.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Laura (Steve) Lillard of Nevada; his granddaughter, Justena (Steven) Fletchall of Ankeny; and his three great-grandchildren: Samuel, Isaac and Benjamin and one on the way.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2007; and two brothers: Russell and Roy.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 14 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 15 at the Nevada Baptist Church in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Reynolds officiating. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada Baptist Church.
