OBITUARY

Died at her home near Nevada, Iowa, Thursday, February 8, 1900, Miss Rosalthe Kelly aged 68 years 1 month and 29 days.

Miss Kelly's death was the result of consumption and though she kept up her spirits to the last, the end was not a surprise to the friends who were aware of the desperate nature of her illness. She was the last, but one of six sisters and two brothers and she is survived by her brother, T. W. and by her aged mother, Mrs. Wm. H. Kelly, while of the younger generation there remains only the three children of her brother T. W., and two grand children of a deceased sister in California.

Miss Kelly, whose first name was commonly shortened to "Rossie," was born in New York City December 10, 1836, and removed in childhood from there to Buffalo and thence to Kenosha county, Wisconsin. From there to she came with the family to Nevada in 1867, and a year later they settled upon the farm two miles northwest of Nevada. About the same time she went with a sister to California, where she taught at Davisville for sixteen years. In 1884 she returned to Nevada and with her bachelor brother Robert devoted herself to making life pleasant for their father and mother. The father died a few years ago at a ripe old age, and the brother followed last summer, and Miss Kelly and her mother were left as the regular occupants of the old home.

Miss Kelly was a woman of fine ability, wide information and rare sweetness of temper. She was greatly admired by all who were privileged to know her and in her death there is lost one of marked unselfishness and usefulness. She was a faithful and earnest member of the Presbyterian church and within the membership of that organization was probably included the greater number of townspeople who really enjoyed her familiar acquaintance.

Her funeral was conducted from the house Saturday afternoon by Rev. A. B. Shrader, assisted by Rev. W. B. Sanford, and her remains were laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.
