From Nevada Representative April 15, 1891
Died at Manning, Iowa, Wednesday April 8th, 1891, Orson B. Dutton in the 66th year of his age.
O. B. Dutton was born June 2, 1825 in the town of Hannibal, Oswego county, New York; removed when 9 years old to Will county, Illinois, where he grew up and was married March 6th, 1845, to Lydia Chapman, who died about 11 years later; removed in 1856 to Delaware county, Iowa, where he was again married to Elizabeth Beavers, who died about two years ago; removed to Benton county, Iowa, 1864, and to Nevada in 1870. Previous to this time he had been a merchant, but on his arrival at Nevada he engaged in banking and continued in that business until 1881. In 1879 he moved from town onto what is now the Alderman farm just west of Nevada, where he resided until 1885, when he removed to Missouri Valley and again engaged in banking. Last October, his health having failed, he returned to Nevada to make this his final home and spend here his last days. In this expectation he was partially disappointed, however, for in February he went with his son Ernest to visit the latter in Manning; and his health continuing to fail rapidly, he was uanble to return.
He had all ten children of whom five are living, to wit: Mrs. Martha L. Leonard, of Iowa county, O. E., of Manning, O. J., of Grand Junction, Jay G., of Perry and Miss Jennie of Nevada, the last of whom presided over his home.
Mr. Dutton was a man of strong character, successtul in business, public spirited as a citizen, respected and liked in all the relations of life. He was for several years a member of the Nevada school board and was diligent and earnest in looking after the success of the schools and the best interests of the district. In religion he was a Spiritualist. In accordance with his wish, his funeral was appropriately conducted Friday afternoon from his late residence by his intimate friend, Mr. Otis Briggs, and he was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery, all his surviving children being present at the obsequies
