From Nevada Representative April 8, 1891
Loren S. Brooks, formerly a resident of this county, died March 11th at his home in Lake City in his thirty-first year. He was a native of Missouri but in his early manhood came to Story county where he taught for two or three years and then was engaged for a time in running a restaurant in the Patton block, the firm being Baird & Brooks. He left here about seven years ago but is kindly remembered by many friends who will be pained to learn of his death. The Lake City Phonograph says of him: "It is with a feeling of sorrow that we speak of the death of "Walter" Brooks, as he was almost solely known in this community. A friend and acquaintance for years, and generally esteemed for his excellent qualities and as a straight-forward and christian young man, we cannot but reflect what a hard lot it seems to be cut off in the very prime of manhood.
