Joetta “Jo” Flotho was surrounded by her family as she peacefully passed away on December 30, 2015, at Bethany Manor in Story City.
Jo was born March 26, 1951, in Clarinda, Iowa. She and her siblings were raised by their mother, Mary Speed in Sheldahl. Jo attended North Polk Schools and was a member of the Sheldahl United Methodist Church. In 1968 Jo was married to John Kenoyer; they had three daughters together. She was married Jimmie Flotho in 1978 and they had a son. Jo raised her children in Cambridge.
Jo was a stay at home mom before she entered the work force as a screen printer for Collegiate Pacific in Ames, before becoming employed with Carpenter Promotions and Uniform in Des Moines. Since retiring she has enjoyed traveling with her friend Paul, collecting rocks and spending time with her family. Jo enjoyed music and dancing and liked to sew and craft. She even wrote some clever poetry.
Jo is survived by her children: Jerri Levri, Ames, Jami Kenoyer, South Haven, MI, John (Amanda) Flotho, Ankeny; son in law Robert Bedore, Ankeny; her mother, Mary Speed, Larned, KS; her siblings: Noel Speed, Larned, KS, Joan Basgall, Larned, KS, Vivian Valfre, Omaha, NE, Jane Sexton, Edge Water, NJ, John (Vicki) Speed, Sheldahl and Gordon Speed, Nevada; her grandchildren: Kaeli, Austin, Zachariah, Samuel, Annie, Linus and Arlo; great grandsons, Leon & Nikolai. As well a slew of nieces; nephews; cousins; and extended family.
Jo was preceded in death by her daughter, Jodi Bedore; ex-husbands: John and Jimmie; sister in law, Tessi Speed; brothers in law Gerald Basgall and John Sexton; and her maternal grandparents John and Effie Copelin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family and they will be directing them to Bethany Manor’s Alzheimer’s Unit.
Celebration of Life and Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the Slater United Methodist Church in Slater. Family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
