Roger Wayne Roark was born September 28, 1946 to Robert and Mae (Frederick) Roark in Pineville, Ky. Roger graduated with a BS from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky., and a MS in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky.

While attending Cumberland College, he met Laura Sawyers and they were married on May 26, 1973. He worked as a research chemist for several chemical companies in Kentucky, Ohio and Iowa before retiring from Cargill in Des Moines in 1999. Roger loved spending time with his family, reading, walking his dog, and outdoor activities, whether it be fishing or coaching his kids in soccer. After retirement, Roger enjoyed helping his wife deliver Avon products to her clients.

Roger passed away at 69 years of age on December 14, 2015 at Israel Family Hospice House.

Roger is survived by his wife, Laura Roark of Ames; two sons, Eric (Leah) Roark and Adam (Christine) Roark; one daughter, Valerie (Joseph) Awino; three grandchildren, Mitchell Roark, Vincent Roark and Mark Awino; two sisters, Lenora Sue Eadens-Burns and Barbara Wethington; many nieces and nephew; and his dog, Rascal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Ralph Roark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be addressed to the family.
