MICHAEL S. HAPNESS

Michael Hapness, son of Sten and Martha Mickelson was born at Vikedahl, Norway, January 18, 1856, and passed away at the George Nibe home, Story City, Iowa, on March 1, 1937, at the age of 81.

He was baptized and confirmed in his home parish in Norway. Mr. Hapness came from Norway in 1878. Since then he has moved around quite a bit, but most of the time he spent in and near Story City. In Norway he was a sailor, but since he came to America he has been engaged in painting.

He was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Gyse on November 17, 1888, at St. Paul, Minn. To this union was born one child, Charles, who died in one of the Southern camps during the world war.

Mrs. Hapness died in 1914. Since that time, Mr. Hapness has been shifting about a good deal. Part of the time, he spent at the Sunset Home in Story City, which he entered in 1931. The last year or so he has had his home with the George Nibe family, where he enjoyed his stay and received good care to the last.

Mr. Hapness has for many years been a faithful member of the Bethel church of Story City.

He leaves a sister, Mrs. Ole Braland, Story City, and many other relatives. Funeral services were conducted in the Bethel church by Rev. G.O. Paulsrud on March 4, 1937. Interment was made at the Boe cemetery. Pall bearers were T. Quam, P. Skogerboe, Sam Jacobson, Sven Nessa and Lewis Townswick.
