Ivan James Burkheimer
September 28, 1924 - November 7, 2015Ivan Burkheimer, 91 died Saturday, November 7, 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa
Ivan was born on September 28, 1924 in Union County, Iowa to Willard and Fern (Means) Burkheimer.
After graduating from Menlo High School in 1943 he volunteered for service and served in the Army Air Corp until being discharged in 1946. In 1944, during his time in the service, he married Dorothy Handley and to that union two sons, Gerald Allen and Steven James were born. They later divorced and in 1965 he married Marlys Sheehan. He spent many years with his special friend, Sylvia Paine.
Ivan lived his adult life in Madrid, Iowa Falls and Mason City, Iowa and Dallas, Texas. He owned and operated many businesses and later sold commercial real estate.
Ivan is survived by his sons, Gary (Helen) Burkheimer of Madrid, Iowa and Steve (Jana) Burkheimer of Clarion, Iowa; grandchildren, Sandra (Dan) Reid, Ivan Burkheimer II, Jodi (Rob) Haley, Lindsay (Josh) Huffman, and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are three stepsons, Joe, Kelly and Kerri Sheehan, sister, Beverly (LuVerne) Tibben of Stuart, Iowa and sister-in-law Marilyn Burkheimer of Ames, Iowa.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
