From Nevada Representative June 13, 1883
A telegram from Nettleton, Arkansas was received Monday by W. G. Allen announcing the death of his son Ethan, which occurred Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Allen were looking for their son home soon, and this news in place of the anticipated pleasure of a visit, is doubly sad. These estimable citizens in their sorrow have the sincere sympathy of this entire community. Ethan's remains will be temporarily buried in Arkansas. Their final resting place will be in our City Cemetery.
From Nevada Representative June 20, 1883
A letter just received from Otto Winters, postmaster at Brookland, Arkansas, gives the particulars of the death of Ethan Allen;--Ethan Allen on Saturday, June 9th, engaged in a friendly scuffle with a party from Buffalo Island at Old Town, fell against an anvil lying in the road and hurt himself badly on the back of his head, but arose and we bandaged his head--I was there at the time. He seemed to be doing all right, and went to Capt. Stroud's house and took a dose of morphia, from the effects of which, the doctor says, he died, Sunday morning.
