Norman Dean Ball, 81 of Collins, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.

Norman was born October 11, 1933, near Collins to Everett and Ethel (See) Ball. He graduated from Collins High School in 1951. On October 3, 1953, Norman was united in marriage to Lee Ann Ridgeway in Des Moines. He served in the United States Army in Germany as a radar technician from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. Norman farmed in the Collins area for 50 years and had worked for the USDA in Ames retiring after 30 years. He attended Ashton Chapel and was a member of the Collins American Legion Post #81.

Norman is survived by his wife, Lee Ann; three children: Michael (Donna) of Rhodes, Karen Higgins of Thompson Falls, MT and Brian of Buckeye, AZ; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a nd nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David; two sisters: Doris Frey and Bernice Ellsworth; and two brothers: James and Ronald.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 25, at Ashton Chapel near Mingo. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Private family burial of cremated remains will take place in Evergreen Cemetery near Collins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ashton Chapel or the Parkinson’s Association.

Norman was a very caring person, always worrying about the needs of others. His special joys in his life were his grandchildren, which he enjoyed doing things with and for them.
