Dale Franklin Collings was born on May 22, 1929 to Clarence Smiley Collings and Eva Belle (Jeffries) Collings in Parke County, Indiana. He passed away on September 23, 2015, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa, with his family at this side.
Dale grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana where he attended school through his High School graduation in 1947. During his college years at Purdue University, he played one year of football before injuring his knee. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Social Fraternity. He graduated from Purdue in 1950 with a degree in Agriculture and started farming in Indiana. At Purdue, he met his future wife, Naomi Ann Letsinger and they were married August 14, 1953 in Crown Point, Indiana. Dale enlisted in the Army in September of 1953 and attended Quartermaster School in Virginia. After his service, his family moved to Nevada, Iowa where he farmed and started his career at the State Bank and Trust Company in Nevada. Dale retired as President of the State Bank and Trust Company in 1991. Dale was active in the Lions Club and was treasurer of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the Nevada School Board, Nevada City Council, and on the board of the Ames National Corporation. Dale and Ann enjoyed golfing, card clubs, and cruising to all seven continents of the world. They moved to Sun City West, Arizona and resided there where Ann passed away in November of 2009. Dale moved to the Regency Retirement Residence in Nevada in the spring of 2011.
Dale married Grace Eileen McCollom Miller in December of 2011. They continued to live at the Regency and enjoyed visiting family and taking several trips and cruises.
In addition to his wife Grace, he is survived by his sons, Randy (Carol) of Nevada, IA, Greg (Sherri) of Sun City West, AZ, and Brian of Sonora, CA; four grandchildren: Scott, Jenney, Chandra, Brad; three great-grandchildren: Diva, Peyton and Parker.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann; one brother, Joe; and one sister, Alice Ruth Ward.
Visitation will be 5 – 7 PM, Tuesday, September 29, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 30th, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.
Inurnment will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery
Memorial gifts may be made to the Fundraising for the Community Building at Story County 4-H Fair Grounds.
