Dane Lyle Wheeler was born on November 13, 1932 on his family’s farm southeast of Cambridge, Iowa. He lived in Cambridge his entire life. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953.

Lyle married Karen Lane on June 4, 1966 in the Bible Presbyterian Church in Cambridge, Iowa. They lived their married life in Cambridge, Iowa.

Lyle was the tenth child born to his parents Harvey Amos Wheeler and Pearl Virginia (Wallick) Wheeler on November 13, 1932. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. He loved to watch games of football and baseball and basketball on the television. Lyle loved to go to see SueAnn’s softball games in high school and at the University of Missouri, the Iowa Hawkeyes in football and basketball. He also watched hours of games on the television. Lyle truly enjoyed all types of sports including loving football baseball and softball and enjoying his daughter strike out players as hard as she could.

After graduating from high school Lyle worked for several farmers and then began working at the Cambridge Lumber Yard for several years and the Cambridge Canning Factory. He then worked for three years at the Newton Foundry. He worked for thirty one years for Keck Inc. working in the warehouse and driving a truck all over Iowa delivering school commodities and petroleum oil. He retired from this job in 1994.

Lyle was a resident of Crestview Manor in Webster City in the Memory unit with dementia for the last eight months. He passed away Friday, August 21st holding his wife’s hand.

Lyle is survived by his wife Karen and, daughter SueAnn. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Willis, Harvey Lester, Floyd Amos and Harold and sister Vera Odessa, Molly Eva (Wheeler) Sydnes, Edith (Wheeler) Brown, Opal (Wheeler) Valentine and Thelma(Wheeler) Leland.

Lyle chose to be cremated with the following services planned. Visitation will be at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa on Tuesday, August 25 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa A lunch will be served in the fellowship room of the funeral home in Nevada, Iowa following the service. Interment will be in the Cambridge Cemetery following the lunch.
