J. Howard Clemens was born on March 15, 1929, in Miller, South Dakota. He was a life-long resident and businessman in Ames, Iowa until his death September 3, 2015.
Howard graduated from Ames High School where he enjoyed track. Soon after graduation he joined the United States Navy. In 1950, he married Mary Mitten. They had four children. Howard went to work with his dad at Clemens Sewing Machine Service after discharge from the Navy. Later, he opened his own store, Howard's Sales Company.
Howard is survived by four children, Sherry (Leon) Emmons, Jim (Debby) Clemens, Jerry (Kelli) Clemens and Jeff (Mary) Clemens; ten grandchildren, Beckie, Shawn, Rachel, Jenny, Scott, Anna, Christie, Tanner, Spencer and Afton; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Joe Clemens; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; and two sisters.
